Thanks for uploading Image:Ducic.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use {{gfdl}} if you release it under the GFDL, or {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much, BrokenSegue 00:17, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Hi! Regarding photo that I've uploaded: I'm not familiar with GDFL and that other stuff, but picture is from Serbian Wikipedia, so i guess that it's not copyrighted. Djordjes posted it on Serbian wiki, and here is his User page on Serbian wiki, where you can contact him in English (or tell me what to ask him).

By the way, Jovan Ducic died in 1943, 62 years ago, so copyright of this photo (if any) should have expired long ago --Obradović Goran (talk 00:57, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)

I was just going to ask you if you could contact Djordjes. You should (does he even speak english) ask him where he got the image from and why he thinks the image is free to use. (If he does speak english I'll talk to him) I found the page where the image is on the Serbian wiki sr:Слика:Ducic.jpg. I can't read the text below the picture but I think that it is just the man's name. Copyrights are based upon the death of the artist <somthing like 70 years too> not the subject so the picture isn't necesarily free to use. Although I have a feeling it is. If Djordjes doesn't respond i'll leave the image with a link to the other wiki. Thanks Again! BrokenSegue 01:09, 27 Jan 2005 (UTC)
P.S. You don't need to copy your responses to both your talk page and mine.
P.S.S. Read up on your edits, welcome ambassador of Serbia :) BrokenSegue

Sorry for taking so long to respond. I'm no expert on copyright law so I passed this case on to Neutrality hopefully he will have time to solve this in the future. Thanks for translating that text for me. BrokenSegue 00:11, 13 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Serbian cross

[edit]

Google search for "srpski krst" in Latin alphabet finds 45 results and in Cyrillic 1180(!?), while for "srpska ocila" in Latin 15 and in Cyrillic one. So I guess it's clear which term is used more oftenly. I'll add more info on firesteels, and you can edit it yourself if you think more should be added - you don't need to ask me for permission :) Nikola 15:55, 2 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Serbian portal

[edit]

As the amount of material somehow connected with Serbs and Serbia on Wikipedia grows, I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to form a SCG/Serb portal, so that all the articles about famous Serbs, Serb history, the Serb republic etc are more closely interlinked. This would also provide the casual reader with a easy to use encyclopaedia of everything they could wish to know about RS, SCG, the Serb diaspora etc. Јес' да је Србија мала и да је мало Срба али ипак има Палестински портал, Doctor Who портал, зато нема разлога да и ми ово не покренемо. At this stage I'm just gauging the amount of interest out there for this. If you support тхис идеа, and want to help out, then just drop by my talk page -- estavisti 20:02, 12 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Russian tsarinas

[edit]

regarding the names of tsarinas of Russia: if from abroad, they changed their first name, such as Wilhelmina became Natalia Alexeievna, etc. Now, Wikipedia has certain rules that the so-called consort name is not to be used, because of several persons being e.g Empress Maria Fedorovna. And that a pre-marital name should be used. But I feel that it is acceptable to make a formulation "Natalia Alexeievna of Darmstadt" (the "of Darmstadt" being for disambiguation purposes) instead of using "Wilhelmina of Darmstadt". Now, as there are plenty of Germanist and anglicist opinions, I would like to know some of international opinion. In other words, I am asking you to think whether from the perspective of non-Russian Slavonic, (1) would it be acceptable to say "Natalia Alexeievna of Darmstadt" and (2) would that be better or worse than "Wilhelmina of Darmstadt". 62.78.105.68 08:31, 21 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I think that "Natalia Alexeievna of Darmstadt" seems fine. Then again, I'm a Slav, and this name is "closer" to me. I'm not really familiar with Russian royal customs, so I can't say this or that is the right thing to do, I only can say that (esthetically) Natalia beats Wilhelmina - Wilhelmina is also OK. I am really sorry that I can't give you some more argumentated assistance :( -- Obradović Goran (talk 00:23, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
BTW, this is an ongoing policy discussion, and the anon has not listed all of the options being considered. If you're interested, the discussion is at this talk page. Best, Choess 01:08, July 22, 2005 (UTC)

I read your opinion: "These persons won their right to be in this encyclopedia mostly by being Empresses of Russia, and thus their articles should be named by their post-conversion names. When it comes to voting, I think that the best choice would be 2 or 4. Disambiguating by years seems silly (if I know so much about a person – why looking up at Wikipedia :)" -- and I am thankful to you as now I know a perspective of an outsider Slav.

There is an ongoing vote now also at Talk:Alexandra Fyodorovna of Hesse where I have been willing to approve the alternatives "Alexandra Fyodorovna of Hesse", "Alexandra Fedorovna of Hesse" and "Alexandra of Hesse", whereas I am against "Alix of Hesse" and "Alix of Hesse and by Rhine". The situation seems rather similar and it seems we are in agreement basically. I think that "Alexandra Fyodorovna of Russia" is an acceptable English translation of a name form which could be in use in books, papers and other literature in some Slavic languages.

In my opinion, none of these alternatives are easy, mostly because those women changed their first names when already adults. We just should find the most elegant solution.

Russian royal customs apparently have almost nothing to do with this, they would have probably wanted to call her as "Empress Alexandra Fyodorovna of Russia", but then there is the disambiguation problem, as there existed also another empress A.F. Arrigo 09:33, 22 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Re: your email.

I've noticed that you have blocked user Jovanvb.

Have I? No such action appears in the blocklog.

I am aware that you block a fair number of users just like this one, but I expect your personal apology to Jovan because of this abominable act!

Do you? That's nice. Evercat 23:27, 9 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if you've blocked an actual user or IP number (diference is only semantical, isn't it).

There's a very big difference. If I block an IP address and it affects a legitimate user, it doesn't mean I was targetting that user.

If the username is the only thing that is bothering you, why don't you just block the user, instead of blocking every IP number that chap ever used?

I have just blocked the username. There is however a feature in the software, whereby any IP address a blocked user logs in from is automatically blocked for 24 hours...

You can read here what info I got.

It says:

The reason given is this: Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "Evercunt". The reason given for Evercunt's block is: "Username".

You see the prefix Auto- meaning automatic.

Your IP address is 82.117.194.66. Please include this address, along with your username, in any queries you make.

Which you didn't do. I have now unblocked 82.117.194.66.

Thanks for uploading Image:Grb-novibeograd.jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag, so its copyright status is therefore unclear. Please add a tag to let us know its copyright status. (If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know on the image description page where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Otherwise, see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have tagged them, too. IP blocking

[edit]

Hi Fvw! I'm experiencing some problems due to the activity of the vandal with the IP number 82.117.194.66, and your efforts to restrain him. I am using the Serbia Broadband ISP's proxy for Internet surfing, which is unfortunately the same IP number our problematic contributor is using. I fully well understand that you're doing what you must, but I would like to inform you that SBB is a big ISP, with a lot of users, and 2 of burrecrats from Serbian Wikipedia are using that very same IP number, and they are affected by blockings.

Angela and other admins on IRC told me that it is very uncommon practise to block IP numbers infinitely. If there is necessity for blocking IP 82.117.194.66, could you please try to keep it as short as possible, in accordance with frequency of vandal's activity, since it affects several contributors. -- Obradović Goran (talk 18:50, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Heya, sorry for the inconvenience. There is some misconception about this with some of the older wikipedians, but in fact it's policy to block open proxies indefinitely on the english wikipedia.
Anyway, so far for the bad news, now the good news: I can no longer access the proxy at 82.117.194.66, so it would appear the ISP in question got their act together and locked down their proxy. Let's hope it sticks, and happy editing! --fvw* 18:59, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Opstinebgd.gif. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law. We need you to specify two things on the image description page:

  • The copyright holder, and
  • The copyright status

The copyright holder is usually the creator. If the creator was paid to make this image, then their employer may be the copyright holder. If several people collaborated, then there may be more than one copyright holder. If you created this image, then you are the copyright holder.

Because of the large number of images on Wikipedia, we've sorted them using image copyright tags. Just find the right tag corresponding to the copyright status of this image, and paste it onto the image description page like this: {{TAGHERE}}.

There are 3 basic ways to licence an image on Wikipedia:

  • The copyright holder gets the best protection of his work by licencing their work under an open content license like the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence. If you have the express permission of the copyright holder to licence their work under the above licence, use the image copyright tag: {{cc-by-sa-2.5}}. The GNU Free Documentation License is another choice for licencing one's work. Again, if you have the express permission of the copyright holder, use the tag: {{GFDL}}.
  • The copyright holder can also release his work into the public domain, see here for images released into the public domain.
    • Images from certain sources are automatically release into the Public Domain. This is true for most governments like the federal United States government. (See here for images from the government of the USA and here for other governments) However not all governments release their work into the public domain, such as the UK government (See herefor images from the UK government). Non-free licence governments are listed here.
  • Also, in some cases, an image is copyrighted but allowed on Wikipedia because of Fair Use. To see if this image qualifies and then how to tag it, see Wikipedia:Fair use.

For any other sources of for more information see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Please remember that if you don't tag your images, they will be deleted.

P.S. If you have uploaded other images without including copyright tags, please go back and tag them. Also, please tag all images that you upload in the future.

If you have any questions, just leave a message on my talk page. Thanks again. --Dijxtra 12:16, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed your comment on Aleksandra Selakovich's talk page. Describing someone as a notorious liar is likely to be construed as a personal attack. Since you describe yourself as an "ambassador of Serbian Wikipedia on English Wikipedia", I'm sure this is not an impression you actually wish to give. Please consider amending your comments, especially the section heading: you could even phrase it as a question to the user, asking her where the department mentioned actually is. Jovan Cvijic.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Jovan Cvijic.png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by going to "Your contributions" from your user page and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hi, someone on the reference desk told me I could ask you something, I hope it doesn't bother you. what does this mean?

Zbog svog zemljopisnog položaja; ini važno prometno sjecište cestovnih pravaca Zadar - Knin, Biograd - Obrovac, Novigrad - Šibenik, te željezni; kog pravca Zadar - Knin. thank you. :D

Ok, here goes translation:
It is positioned on the meeting point of the southern Bukovica and Ravni Kotari, in northen Dalmatia, part of Zadar zupanija (zupanija = administrative entity of Croatia). Because of its geographical position; it (?) important trafic juncture of road routes Zadar - Knin, Biograd - Obrovac, Novigrad - Sibenik, then railway; which direction Zadar - Knin. Of economic branches developed are agriculture (cattle, husbandry, orchardry and vineyards), grape processing, stone exploatation, shoemaking industry and metal industry.

It is clear that this section of the text describes some village or town.

Note that text isn't in Serbian, but in Croatian, so I had problem with understanding some parts (hence question mark).

Hope this worked for you. -- Obradović Goran (talk 00:44, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Coat of Arms are usualy PD, but its questionable. Also, I'm not sure if you are the creator, but they seem a bit, child-like in their drawings, or a Microsoft Paint job. (no offence ment if you created them). Flags and Coat of Arms last time I checked can be uploaded to the commons, which would allow useage over all wikis not just en, so might be another idea when they are needed next time. --Romeo Bravo 01:39, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Translation Help

[edit]

Hi, I'm having a really hard time translating this article from Serbian Wikipedia [5]. The article on here is really needing more information and that seems to the most nicely outlined source. I would greatly appreciate if you could do a quick run-through translation of the article for me and put it on Milhajlo Petrovic-Alas. Even if it is the worst translation you can do - no problem - I will fix up the English to my best ability. Thank you so much. Antidote 21:19, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have an old book (relatively old anyway) called Mathematics: A History of the Contributors (thats a rough translation - it's in German). There was a small section on Alas and it somewhat biased me to believe he is highly unsung. However there aren't many English sources on him online. I remember coming across a very extensive biography excerpt from a Serbian book called "Eleven Serbian Scientists" or something like that. Maybe you've heard of it? I may be remembering wrong. Thank you so much for your excellent work on Petrovic-Alas! Antidote 03:07, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The image might be fairurse under the ((art)) tag - which allows for images made after 1923. Not sure when it was painted, but if the other one is more famous then we should use that one anyway. Antidote 03:28, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I just read your comment about the biography. Though I am a foreign reader (foreign to Serbia), I find the information on the person Petrovic more fulfilling than information on his mathematical achievements, however, I certainly do agree that there should be a section detailing his contributions. I have tried to find some information on this but there are very few free online sources that aren't in Serbian. I can only minimally read Serbian, and thus can only make very poor translations. Being a resident of Belgrade (I'm assuming), your English is unbelievably good. Maybe it's just the Americans/Australians/Canadians who don't know anything but their own native English. Anyway, I have written a biography on another Serbian mathematician, Jovan Karamata, and I am also severely lacking information detailing his contributions. Whenever I get some major free time, I'll try to look up both. Antidote 20:51, 11 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I came across your article on General Jovanović while doing some routine spelling fix-ups. I have tagged it for copy-editting, as I believe it would benefit from some rewording by a native English speaker.

Hi, Image:General pukovnik Arso Jovanovic 2.jpg can't be proved to be PD or fair use without us knowing more about where the photo came from. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Bguniverzitet.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bguniverzitet.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 20:27, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I see you helped out on a recent AfD and I'm asking if you can have a look at this article. It appears from the number sources (linked on Talk:Dragan Radulović that he's notable, but I can't read them to judge. I'm not asking you to work on this article but rather to see if you have any information on the person as to whether he's notable or who I could ask for help on this. I already posted it to WP:CLEANUP but I'm not sure we'll find eds there. Thanks! Travellingcari (talk) 21:33, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Image:Jovan Cvijic.png

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Image:Jovan Cvijic.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [8], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Jovan Cvijic.png|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. TodorBozhinov 16:22, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Petar Kocic.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

File source problem with File:Henry McIver.jpg

[edit]
File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Henry McIver.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 01:37, 25 September 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (talk) 01:37, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello Obradovic Goran! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 6 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

  1. Ljubiša Jokić - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
